Waikato Management School staff and postgraduate students undertake theoretical and applied research within all of the core disciplines of management. In addition, the School's research portfolio features an increasing number of multidisciplinary projects aligned with the government's national goals and the priorities of external funding agencies. The aim of the School's research is to increase knowledge and shape management theory, influence business practice, and inform public policy in New Zealand and around the globe. As our faculty are actively engaged in research, the School's teaching programmes are informed by leading-edge theories and case studies. Research serves as an integrator of the School's activities by bridging between teaching and practice.
 

E-Commerce and ICT Innovation

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a constantly changing field of research driven by new technologies and characterised by windows of opportunity that emerge as technologies facilitate and enable new social and organisational opportunities. Electronic Commerce (EC) involving the application of ICT and new business processes in organizations has become a highly visible focus for research.

The School has a series of major research programmes which focus on the application of ICT and EC.

  • Socio-Economic Impacts of ICT/EC
    Including economic impacts of ICT on labour markets, e-business activities in NZ, social and cultural consequences of ICTs for women, Maori, new immigrants.
  • Innovative Applications of ICT/EC
    Including analysis tools for B2B websites, innovation processes.
  • Commercialisation of Innovative ICT/EC
    Including processes for commercialisation of ICT, success factors for commercialisation of ICT.
  • Strategic use of ICT/ECs
    Including strategy taxonomies for electronic retailing, e-business strategies, strategic alliances in electronic marketplaces.
  • Adoption, uptake and implementation processes for ICT/EC
    Including case studies of adoption of ICT/EC by New Zealand organisations and government, change management.
  • On-line communities and electronic communication
    Including electronic networks for innovators and entrepreneurs, seniors, teenagers.
